Welche Geschichten erzählt Folk Music aus verschiedenen Flecken in Europa? Wo nationale Grenzen in letzter Zeit wieder spürbarer werden, wagt die Konzertreihe Folk Stories eine Gegenperspektive: Improvisation ist der gemeinsame Boden und trifft dieses Mal auf Folk mit türkischen und kurdischen Einflüssen.
Mit Saz, Gitarre und Saxophon entsteht an diesem Abend (Konzert I) ein warm-holziges Trio mit Koray Berat Sari aus Monheim und den beiden Kölner Musiker:innen Tobias Hoffmann und Luise Volkmann.
Koray Berat Sari ist ein musikalischer Tausendsassa. Er spielt hauptsächlich Saz – die türkische Laute – aber auch Gitarre und verschiedene Flöten. Er bewegt sich in verschiedenen Folk Projekten, aber auch im Jazz und in der Klassik. „Für mich ist Koray ein besonderer Musiker, weil er immer mit so viel emotionaler Tiefe und Herz spielt, dass ich jede musikalische Begegnung mit ihm unglaublich genieße“ sagt Volkmann.

Luise Volkmann - Saxophon
Bio
Luise Volkmann /b. 1992/ is a musician and sound composer based in Cologne, Germany. Her favorite tool is the saxophone. Her musical project circles around the transformative potential of music – with various bands she brings and brought to life.
Luise has won several awards as a saxophonist, including a double award at the German Jazzprice 2026. Over the past decade, she has performed at renowned festivals and jazz clubs in Europe, Asia and Middle East with excursions into folk, contemporary and transtraditional music.
She completed her studies in jazz saxophone, composition and musicology in Leipzig, Paris and Cologne.
Tobias Hoffmann - Gitarre
Bio
Tobias Hoffmann was born in 1982 in Remscheid
Beginning in 1998, took guitar lessons in classical and jazz guitar at the Bonn Music School
Young student at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT) in 2001
Diploma in jazz guitar in 2007, Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT)

Koray Berat Sari - Saz /türkische Laute
Bio
Koray Berat Sari is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Monheim am Rhein with Alevi-Kurdish roots. He studied classical guitar at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, where he also specialized in West Asian instruments and musical traditions. Sari performs both as a soloist and in various ensembles, and he directs the youth ensemble mondomuziko nrw. He is additionally involved in a range of music and theater projects. As a lecturer, he teaches at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, the Association of Music Schools in North Rhine-Westphalia, and the State Music Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia. His main areas of focus are bağlama, guitar, and transcultural ensemble work. With the Duisburg Philharmonic, he contributes as a community music artist to numerous concerts and projects.
